The Winter Edit: Best Restaurants, Shops and Experiences at Capri on Via Roma

Winter on the Gold Coast is not what the rest of Australia imagines. There are no grey skies, no reason to stay indoors. What June actually delivers is crisp mornings, long golden afternoons, and the kind of mild weather that makes sitting beside the water with something warm feel genuinely perfect.

For locals on the Isle of Capri, Bundall and Broadbeach, this is the season when Capri on Via Roma earns its place as the neighbourhood’s living room. The waterfront catches the afternoon sun just right, restaurant menus shift toward richer and more considered dishes, and there is a pace to the precinct that summer crowds never quite allow. For visitors discovering the Isle of Capri for the first time, June is an excellent time to arrive, quieter, more local, and far more interesting than the peak season rush.

Here is everything worth knowing about Capri on Via Roma this winter.

Where to Eat, Drink and Linger This Winter

Begin with Coffee and Something Fresh from the Oven

The best winter days begin slowly.

Arrive early while the waterways are still quiet and start with coffee from Urban Fix Espresso or South Coast Coffee Co. Both have earned loyal local followings for good reason, offering the kind of reliable morning ritual that turns into a habit.

For pastry lovers, however, the first stop has to be Bisou Bakery.

The croissants alone are worth the visit, but winter is arguably when the bakery feels at its best. Grab a coffee, find a sunny spot overlooking the water and let the morning unfold at its own pace.

Edgewater Dining & Lounge: Enjoy Long Lunch by the Waterfront

If there is one restaurant to book this June, it is Edgewater Dining & Lounge. The team has just released their Winter Menu 2026, modern Australian cuisine built around the season, with dishes including wagyu rump steak and slow-cooked lamb shoulder alongside a wine list that leans into Central Otago reds and other cool-climate picks.

On Monday to Thursday, the Set Lunch menu is $69 per person and includes a complimentary glass of wine or beer, running from 11:30am to 3:30pm. It is among the better value long lunches currently available on the Gold Coast, and the waterfront setting does the rest. On Tuesdays, their Prawn and Bug Risotto is $38, and on Wednesdays, the Steak Frites goes for the same price, both worth knowing about if you are a regular in the precinct. *Prices and menu availability subject to change. Contact the restaurant to confirm.

Valyn Thai Restaurant and Bar: Refined Thai Dining by the Water

Valyn Thai Restaurant and Bar is the other standout for a proper winter sit-down. From the team behind Chong Co, Nahm Thai and Nahm Talay, three of the Gold Coast’s most respected Thai venues, Valyn represents their most refined setting yet. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the canal, chandeliers hang above marble tables, and the menu balances signature dishes with Thai classics executed with care.

The slow-cooked beef cheek massaman curry is the dish the season calls for, deeply fragrant, rich, and exactly right for a cool afternoon by the water. The betel leaf prawn wraps and spanner crab dumplings in yellow curry are both worth starting with. Bookings are recommended, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Manolas Deli Bar Bistro: Mediterranean Comfort Done Properly

Manolas Deli Bar Bistro is as much a Gold Coast institution as it is a restaurant. The Manolas family have been feeding the local community for over 30 years, and the warmth of that history shows in the way the place operates, family still in the kitchen, long-standing relationships with customers and local producers, and a menu that genuinely centres around the joy of sharing food. In winter, that means woodfired pizza, handmade pasta and generous mezze plates suited to a table of friends on a cold night

On Wednesdays, their Gnocchi Wednesday special pairs handmade gnocchi with a glass of boutique wine, one of the better midweek reasons to leave the house. Friday through Sunday, they serve a Mediterranean breakfast until 10:30am: Sicilian eggs, lemon ricotta pancakes and Sega Freddo coffee. Walk-ins only for breakfast, so come early.

Bold Flavours and Quick Bites

Madam Fu Modern Asian brings bold, satisfying flavours to the precinct, an excellent option for a weekday lunch when you want something with character without the full sit-down commitment. For something lighter, The Sushi Bar and Tokyo Sushi on Capri both deliver fresh, well-made Japanese that suits the grab-and-go visitor or anyone after a quick and honest meal. Bao Burgers rounds things out for those who want something more substantial on the go.

Stock the Pantry at Harris Farm Markets

No visit to Capri on Via Roma is complete without time spent in Harris Farm Markets. Sourcing from over 320 Queensland producers, the store carries a vast selection of fresh produce at any given time. In June, the cool-weather harvest is at its peak: leafy greens, brassicas, root vegetables and citrus that is sharp and bright. The deli counter is worth exploring slowly, local cheeses, house-made items and specialty imports. Pick up what looks good, add a bottle from Capri Wine & Beer, and the weekend takes care of itself.

Beauty and Wellbeing in Winter

Winter is a reasonable excuse to invest in a little more personal maintenance. Miracle Design Nails & Beauty is a professional family-run salon within the precinct, offering a full range of nail and beauty services. For something more restorative, Pure Peace Massage offers Thai massage and treatments, a genuinely good option after a long lunch or as the reason to visit on its own. Doll Face Brow and Make-up Studio rounds out the beauty offer for brows, lashes and makeup services.

For a different kind of winter refresh, That Pretty Market brings together flowers, homewares and thoughtful gifts that make everyday life feel a little more beautiful. Part florist, part lifestyle destination, it’s the sort of place where you can pick up fresh blooms for the home, find a thoughtful gift or simply indulge in one of winter’s smaller pleasures.

Something Different: Get Out on the Water

GoBoat Gold Coast operates self-drive electric picnic boats directly from the Capri marina, no licence required, no experience needed. In winter, the waterways are calm, the light is beautiful, and the crowds are thinner than in summer. Pack a spread from Harris Farm, pick up a bottle from Capri Wine & Beer, and spend an hour or two on the canal. It is the kind of afternoon that is very difficult to improve upon.

For a limited time, GoBoat is also offering 20% off gift cards until 30 June using code EOFY2026, making it an ideal gift for birthdays, celebrations, thank-yous or simply creating a memorable experience with loved ones. *Offer subject to GoBoat terms and availability.
